Why your NHS application keeps getting rejected (and it's probably not your experience)
If you've got the right background but keep hearing nothing back, the problem usually isn't what you've done — it's whether your application shows it.
NHS Jobs and TRAC shortlisting is scored against the person specification, criterion by criterion. A busy panel isn't reading your whole career story — they're scanning for evidence that matches each essential and desirable requirement on the advert.
The most common gap: translation
Real care, clinical or admin experience often isn't written in the language a shortlisting panel is scanning for. Something you did every day in a previous role might genuinely meet a requirement — but if it's not phrased in those terms, it doesn't register as a match.
The second gap: targeting
Band level, location and registration requirements all affect whether a role is realistically worth applying to. Applying broadly without checking fit against each specification wastes effort on roles that were never a strong match.
The third gap: generic statements
When a role draws a hundred applicants, a supporting statement that could apply to any job is the easiest one to overlook. Tailoring every statement to the specific advert and Trust is what moves an application from "possible" to "shortlisted."
